I am so excited about our "God of This City - New Orleans Mission Trip"! God placed such a burden and sense of expectancy upon our hearts when we visited New Orleans especially First Baptist Church of Chalmette. Chalmette is located in the St. Bernard Parish, one of the hardest hit areas by the flooding from Lake Pontrachain and the breaking of the levees during Katrina. All but six homes flooded in the Parish which had a population of 65,000 pre-Katrina! The Pastor's home was flooded by 22 feet of water!
The church's average attendance was the mid 400's before Katrina, the day after none. Seven months later, they were able to start meeting in the High School Cafeteria. They are still meeting there with an avg. attendance of 50. The population which dropped to 10,000 right after Katrina is now back up to around 45,000.
Help us, help this church see their dreams become reality. They have great plans for their church. They are already reaching out to the community with a food pantry, clothes closet and much more! They are planning to be open seven days a week to this community which needs so much. They will have Vocational Counseling, Substance Abuse Counseling and most of all, a place for them to find God.
I will keep giving you information. The first deposit is $25 which is due on 2/8/09. Final payment of $75 is due no later than 3/15/09. You may make installment payments between now and then. Post questions or email (eva@wbcjax.com), call 781-0618 or send me a message on facebook.
